Aviation: Safe-Guarding Maps

In order to make the process of pre-application consultation more effective key stakeholders in the aviation and wind development sectors are co-operating to develop an interactive web tool that can be used by wind project developers during the site selection stages of project development. The aim of this tool is to:

Reduce the number of speculative enquiries being sent directly to aviation consultees
Combine information on all radar installations in a single place to simplify the site screening process
Be a confidential repository for all information about proposed developments
Integrate the aviation consultation proforma and automatically distribute enquiries to relevant aviation stakeholders
Provide a preliminary assessment tool to assess the likelihood of objections for a given site of potential interest to developers
Provide an assessment methodology for use by the consultees

The development of such an interactive tool is being progressed in two phases:

Phase 1: Make available a series of maps with various downloadable GIS (Geographical Information System) layers.

Phase 2: A comprehensive interactive web tool to assist in site selection.

Datasets

NOTE: Maps are made available as ESRI Shapefiles for use with GIS software. These are also viewable with free ArcExplorer software. The source of these data is given in parentheses.

MoD Safeguarding Data

MoD Safeguarding Data are available for download to assist in identifying potential windfarm sites and in the process of pre-application consultation between Wind Project Developers and the MoD. These data must not be used for any other internal or external business uses that do not support the MoD/Defence Estates Safeguarding process. You must not sub-license, lend, sell, lease, assign, transfer or otherwise dispose of these Data or this licence unless instructed to do so by Defence Estates Safeguarding. You must not modify, alter, decompile, reverse engineer, or disassemble the Data beyond that which is necessary to allow the use of the Data within your system. The relevant acknowledgements must be included where data are displayed.

The licence is included within the file to download. By using these data then it is assumed that you have accepted these terms of the licence.'
